Kitchen Reveal

Gone are the red walls that once covered our kitchen.  Painting them red was a huge chore.  We used so much paint on the walls when we moved in, that I swear you could just peel it off.  That was before I knew WHY people really used primer.  You think, oh the walls are bare...and I mean, bare, still builder grade- not even painted- white, so why would I need to use primer on them?  Haha.  Don't worry, I learned my lesson on that.  I read and researched and read some more about people painting over red walls, and one day I decided to just do it.  The man at Lowe's suggested a high-hiding primer first, and then a Valspar paint with primer.  I didn't go with the most expensive paint, just a mid grade one.

See how dark those walls are???  (Please excuse the mess.  We were in the process of installing new appliances.)

I chose a nice, neutral cream color for the walls.  It was quite challenging finding one that would go nicely with the gray countertops.  But the ultimate challenge was working all the colors together for what I had in store for the cabinets!  Now let me preface this by saying how much I absolutely despise white cabinets!  As much time as I spend in the kitchen every day, AND having two kids, I'm not sure why anyone would keep them.  They were a pain to clean, a bigger pain to keep clean, and well, I think they just looked cheap.  Some people love them.  They just don't work for me.  Replacing them would have been wonderful.  But that was just NOT in the cards.  So, why not add a little paint?

The red toaster had to go and the cutting block and kitchen floor mat got new paint jobs.

The white tile backsplash was the last to go.  My morning demolition looked something like this....

And so it went from something like this.....

To something like THIS!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way everything came together.  The black cabinets are fantastic!

And this.... (notice the before of the floor mat)...

To THIS!!!

And one of my favorite parts of the kitchen.....this was the before.  It was a cheapo piece entertainment center we picked up at Rooms To Go Outlet.  It had some scratches and dents, but that would benefit my antiquing.   :)

And this is the finished piece!

I went from a dark, dull everyday space to a bright, spacious kitchen with clean lines and gourmet appeal.  So, what do you think??  Do you have a space that needs a paint transformation?
